Joy in serving for His Name sake

Joy in Serving for His Name Sake

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a random for many. Mark 10:45

-THIS SUNDAY'S TEXT- The Joy of Serving

As we have heard earlier in our series, the chief of end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. One of the many ways God has provided for us to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever is through SERVING. I am reminded of this from our time in Hebrews.

Hebrews 6:10 – For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for HIS NAME in serving the saints, as you still do.

Our love for God’s glory (His Name) shows up in our serving the saints.

Jesus exemplified this service for the glory of God. Read Philippians 2:1-11 Notice: · Verse 7 – emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant. · Verse 8 – humbled Himself by becoming obedient. · Verse 9 – exalted by God · Verse 9 - a name above every name · Verse 10 – at the name of Jesus every knee should bow · Verse 11 – every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. · TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER!!!

The following passages will be helpful in preparation for this Sunday: Mark 10:42-45 Galatians 5:13-15 Luke 9:23-26

In light of the truths discovered in the previous passages, read Mark 2:1-12 and connect the truths with what takes place in the occasion found in Mark 2.

Example: In Mark 10:42-45, Jesus said He came not to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.

In the occasion found in Mark 2, Jesus was not served by the paralytic, but Jesus served him. Jesus forgave his sin and healed his body.

Example: In Galatians 5:13-15, it reads – you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

In Mark 2, the four men exemplified this in that they loved the paralytic as themselves through knowing his need and acting in love toward him by carrying him to Jesus. And they did not let anything get in the way of their loving the paralytic and getting him to Jesus.

Write down a few other examples.

-CONSIDER & MEDITATE- Attitude: think about the attitudes that are necessary in serving others for the glory of God. We saw in the Scriptures humility. We saw a genuine compassion that resulted in loving action.

Serving: consider – How has God gifted you? How is your life a joyful service to the body of Christ for the glory of God?

PRAYER & THANKSGIVING Spend some time reflecting back on Philippians 2:1-11. Think about all that Christ has done for the forgiveness of our sin and for the glory of the Father. Ask God to stir up in you the mind of Christ. Thank God for saving you through His Son Jesus Christ and for using you for His glory. Praise Him!!!
