For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Hebrews 3:14
This Sunday, we will be proclaiming & celebrating Christ and our unity in Him through Communion.
It seems that humanity has always struggled in the searching for identity and belonging. The desperate search of identity and belonging ends in knowing Christ. For those who share in Christ (are known by Christ & know Christ), we are blessed by God and share so much together as the family of God.
Read Ephesians 1:3-14 & Romans 8
As children of God, we share in Christ our salvation:
In Christ, we have been called & adopted as sons and daughters.
In Christ, we have been justified by God.
In Christ, we have been and are being sanctified by God.
In Christ, we will be glorified by God.
In Christ, we are assured & persevered in our salvation.
As children of God, we share in the proclamation & celebration of the saving work of Jesus Christ.
In baptism, we proclaim & celebrate the saving work of Christ accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection.
In the Lord’s Supper (Communion), we proclaim & celebrate the saving work of Christ accomplished on the cross and our unity as the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 English Standard Version (ESV) For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
Spend time in prayer of thanksgiving to God:
1 Corinthians 11:27-29 English Standard Version (ESV)
Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
Let the end of Psalm 139 be our prayer –
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting!
