Weekly Memory Verse: "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God." - James 1:19-20

Sermon Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:8-17

-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON-

Jesus Addresses the Angry Heart.

Dear River Family,

I must confess to you that my original plan was to run through the rest of chapter 5 this Sunday. In the remainder of the chapter, Jesus gives 6 occasions that begin, "You have heard that it was said". Then, Jesus proceeds to give clarity to what was heard. The Lord has impressed upon my heart to slow down because we need desperately to hear clearly what Jesus is saying in these specific occasions.

Read Matthew 5:21-26

As you read this passage, consider the following:

What is the comparison of what was heard and what Jesus says? What examples does Jesus give describing anger? What action does Jesus call His followers to?

Helpful passages: Proverbs 14:29, Proverbs 15:1-18, Proverbs 29:22

Grace & Peace, Eric
