Jesus – Bringing many sons to glory

Sufferings in this world are difficult : · Sufferings of the body (death & sickness) · Sufferings of the mind (anxiety, fear, worry) · Sufferings in relationships (conflict, abuse, neglect) · Sufferings of temptations

Sunday’s message can be summed up in one verse (John 16:33) - I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Read Hebrews 2

We must keep man’s tendency to view angels as something to be exalted and worshipped as we work through this passage. In Revelation, John felt the need to worship an angels and the angel said – You must not do that!!!

In verse 6, a question is presented. What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?

This question is asked to make us think. This question is asked, and the rest of the chapter answers.

The answer to this question is found in all that is accomplished in Jesus Christ.

God was mindful of man, in that:

  1. Jesus, for a little while, was made lower than the angels.
  2. Jesus tasted death for everyone.
  3. He brings many sons to glory.
  4. Jesus was made like us in every respect.
  5. Jesus made propitiation for our sin.
  6. Jesus helps us who are being tempted.

God was mindful of us in that He sent Jesus to suffer for our sake. Jesus took on the form of man and suffered all that we would and more. Jesus suffered perfectly and calls us to trust Him to faithfully carry us through our sufferings.

Jesus suffered to the point of death – even death on a cross, and by this, He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to life long slavery.

Through Jesus’ life, suffering, death, and resurrection, the devil and death have lost power destroy, and death no longer holds believers captive in fear. Hopelessness leads to fear, but our hope is in Christ; therefore, for those who trust Jesus, a different questioned is raised –

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus also has suffered when tempted, and He is able to help us when we are being tempted.

So – What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?

Mindful enough of us and caring for us in that He sent Jesus to live, suffer, and die for us.

Praise Jesus! Thank Jesus! Proclaim Jesus!
