Parable of the Weeds. 9/17/23

Weekly Memory Verse: "The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one..." - Matthew 13:38

Sermon Scripture Reading: Matthew 16:13-20

-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON-

River Family,

Lord willing, this Sunday we will cover Matthew 13:24-43. There are three parables in this section - The parable of the weeds (the longer parable), the parable of the mustard seed and the parable of the leaven (two really short parables). I would like to give you some homework. Matthew 13:36-43 is Jesus' explanation of the parable of the weeds to His disciples. In this section, He defines most of the subjects in His parable in Matthew 13:24-30.

Homework: take pen and paper and write down from Matthew 13:36-43 who the subjects are. I have done the first two for you:

  • the one who sows the good seed = the son of man
  • the field = the world
  • the good seed =
  • the weeds =
  • the enemy =
  • the harvest =
  • the reapers =

Now, rewrite Matthew 13:24-30 using the definitions of the subjects that Jesus gives. It should begin, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to the son of man who sowed sons of the kingdom in His world..."

I hope you will enjoy this bit of homework. This will provide a wonderful explanation of the parable. Looking forward to worshipping with you Sunday.

Grace and Peace, Eric

Until He comes, having the mind of Christ, walk together in grace and truth.
