-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON-
River Family,
I am sure you have had a moment or two in life when things came to a head… there was a clash of ideas, convictions, and/or philosophies, control… It’s uncomfortable and unpleasant.
Everyone knew where the other stood and the greater discourse could now be played out. Jesus entered Jerusalem and the city was stirred with conversation… about this man, Jesus. The one people were following and shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David.” Who is this man who claims to the Son of God, the Messiah? There is a moment in the temple of God that a collision between two opposing wills comes to a climax sending a ripple effect throughout Jerusalem and Judaism. Jesus establishes His authority in many ways throughout this passage as we will see on Sunday morning. Of course, the chief priests and scribes were indignant toward Jesus and His authority. He was claiming to be God, he was usurping their authority, and He was up-ending their corrupt sacrificial system. The Pharisees response to Jesus was to rid themselves of this nuisance and continue in their power. They wanted to destroy Jesus! How do you respond when the clash of ideas is between you and Jesus? Do you submit and accept His cleansing of your heart? Do you rebel against His authority? Or do you bow with humility and surrender before King Jesus?
Soli Deo Gloria, Matthew
