One of the main themes throughout the book of Hebrews is that Jesus is greater and all that is of Him is better.
Jesus is greater than the angels. Jesus is greater than Moses. Jesus is greater than any earthly high priest.
Jesus introduces a better hope. Jesus is the guarantor of a better covenant. This better covenant is enacted on better promises.
Church, Jesus is the greatest; nothing can compare to Jesus. All that is of Him is better, better than anything else you may chase after. Oh that we would wake up and see and savor Christ Jesus our Lord. There is nothing nor no one who can comfort like Jesus. None can satisfy like Jesus. None can promise like Jesus. None can preserve like Jesus.
Read 4:14-5:10
Jesus has passed through the heavens. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is able to sympathize with you in your weakness. Jesus in every respect has been tempted as we are tempted, yet is without sin. Jesus is our merciful, gracious help in time of need.
Read Hebrews 2:17-18 Spend time thinking about this and worship! Praise Him! Thank Him!
Compare Jesus with the earthly high priests. Earthly high priests – Hebrews 5:1-4 Jesus – our high priest – Hebrews 5:5-10
With Hebrews 5:7-10 in mind – Read Luke 22:39-44 and Luke 23:26-46
Another helpful read in preparation for Sunday – Hebrews 7
It is my prayer that in light of Jesus and all that we learn of Him in His Word, may we fall in love with Jesus more and more; may we trust Jesus more and more; may we worship Jesus all the more; may we proclaim Jesus all the more.
I am amazed at how little professing believers actually talk about Jesus. I have heard a couple of conversations in the past few days that centered on Lent. People were talking about what they were giving up and how they were observing Lent, yet in the conversations, I never heard Jesus even mentioned.
Easter, Lent, Church, they are all so easy to talk about, but why are we so shy to talk about Jesus. I believe it is because we love center stage. It is too often about us. Let’s remember – as God may lead us to give something up, it is not simply to give something up. Give it up and pursue Christ. Lay it aside and pursue Christ. Fast so that you might feast – feast on God and His Word.
Jesus said – If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
May our hearts and minds be set on Christ DAILY.
