Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10.

-THIS SUNDAY'S TEXT-

This week we are continuing to look at our series ABIDE, focusing on this attribute of God: He is slow to anger. Have you ever been angry to the point of wishing God would "do something about that"? What does the Bible say about God's "slowness to anger"? If God is love, and shows compassion along with God being slow to anger, does that mean we can "put off" getting things right with Him, or is there more to this?
Does God's patience with anger apply only to Christians, or to those outside of faith as well? These are just a few of the areas we'll be exploring this Sunday. We'll be looking at several passages to help consider what God has to say about Himself on this topic. Consider reading these and ponder them: • Exodus 34:6. Look at this in context ... we've visited this passage much recently, and it is a key passage for studying God's slowness of anger. Be sure to read the context around it. • Numbers 14:18 Moses quotes the above passage. What is the context? How does Moe apply it in speaking with God? What application is there for us in our prayer life and learning about God's character? • Joel 2:13 We looked at this a few weeks ago, but is also applicable to God's slowness of anger. What is the purpose that God has for being patient? What should it drive us to do as we look to Him? • Jonah 4:2 Jonah knew God's character and how God would likely respond to his preaching of God's word! What can we learn from Jonah's attitude and God? • Nahum 1:3 This short book is an oracle against a particular city another prophet had preached God's Word to (see Jonah!). Be sure to read the context of the book and see God's powerful word against this city. What happened historically to this city? What does this imply for us? • Finally, look at Psalm 30:5. What is God's purpose for brief anger? There is something here to rest in. God bless you this week as we look to Him from His word and grow together!
