Grace and Truth. 8/6/23

Weekly Memory Verse: "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever." - Isaiah 40:8

Sermon Scripture Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5

-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON-

River Family,

As followers of Christ, God is so good to us to give us His Word. I truly love and am thankful for the Bible. It is the truth of God; it is the wisdom of God; it is the power of God; it sanctifies; it transforms.

I appreciate the truth and rawness of the Word of God. God has not skirted around difficult situations and the dreadfulness of humanity. In His Word, God has included real people, real stories, that if we were the writer, we probably would have left out:

  • Cain killing his brother Abel
  • Lot and his daughters
  • Esau selling his birthright
  • Brothers selling their brother Joseph into slavery
  • Judah and Tamar
  • David, Bathsheba, Uriah
  • Peter and his denials
  • Thomas and his doubts

John the Baptist, in Matthew 11:1-6, is in prison and is questioning whether or not Jesus is the Messiah. With all that we know about John the Baptist, from the prophecy of his coming. to his birth, to his time in the wilderness, his proclamations of Jesus, this is a very interesting position John is in regarding his thoughts about Jesus. As John the Baptist wrestles and questions, take note of what Jesus does.

I have found this incident to be strangely comforting?
How about you? Why?

Grace and Peace, Eric

Until He comes, having the mind of Christ, walk together in grace and truth.
