While we do not live in New York City, we do live in a busy, noisy world. Books, blogs, friends, fans, followers, frauds, tags and tweets, alerts, reminders, podcasts, streamings, snapchats, retweets.
We live in a time where we can talk to someone or multiple people on the phone, while texting another group of people, while watching a show and listening to some tunes, and also trying to play a game or sort through mail. We live in a time that we do so much, yet accomplish so little; we hear so much, yet comprehend so little; we know so much, yet understand so little; we live so much, yet truly live so little. Our world is so noisy that we need noise to drown out the noise – physically and emotionally.
We live in a world of distraction, deception, distortion, dissatisfaction, disruption, disorientation leaving many discouraged, disillusioned, and disconnected. This is nothing new; it just looks a little bit different today.
Many find themselves at times asking questions. Where is God? What is He saying? What is He doing?
Psalm 46:10 reads – Be still, and know that I am God. In the NASB it reads – Cease striving, and know that I am God.
God is not silent. Because He is a kind, gracious God, He speaks!
Read Hebrews 1
Verse 1 says – Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers. Verse 2 – But (this means things are going to change) in these last days (we are still in these last days) He has spoken to us by His Son.
Now this is quite incredible that the God who powerfully speaks creation into being speaks to those He has created. God has given us knowledge of Him, His creation, life, and life eternal.
He has spoken to us through nature – Psalm 19:1-2 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
He has spoken to us through His prophets, as we have just read in Hebrews. And finally, God has spoken to us through His Son – Jesus, the Word made flesh. Read John 1:1-18. We find and understand these things in the Scriptures, and we must understand that when Scripture speaks – God speaks!
Therefore, as we live in such a noisy world, make time and space in life (much time and space) to Be still, and know that I (God) am God. This time with God in His Word and prayer is essential to the life of a believer. As you spend time with the Lord, focus on our Lord Jesus Christ. Notice in Hebrews 1 all the attention given Jesus – the Son of God.
BE STILL! TURN OFF THE NOISE!
Seek Jesus.
Know Jesus.
Trust Jesus.
Obey Jesus.
Thank Jesus.
Praise Jesus.
Exalt Jesus.
Jesus is the Son of God. When Jesus was transfigured, God told Peter, James, and John – This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him.
Jesus is the bread of life! Jesus is the living water! Jesus is the prince of peace! Jesus is the light of the world! Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life! Jesus is the Word made flesh!
