In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. - Ephesians 1:7
-THIS SUNDAY'S TEXT- John 17:1-19
This week we will be looking at the role and function of the word of God in the life of a disciple. We see in scripture that the word of God is vital for a follower of Christ. Two things to consider as we approach our time together:
The word of God is more than a book that we call The Bible, it is the words of God. Our God is a god who speaks (2 Timothy 3:16), he is not silent, and we find what he has to say in the pages of scripture. His word are alive and active (Hebrews 4:12). His words have power (Romans 1:16 & 1 Corinthians 1:18) Eternal life is knowing God. This is Jesus' definition of eternal life (John 17:3). How often do we see in the epistles the plea/prayer that the church's knowledge of the Lord grow (Colossians 1:10-11)
How gracious is our God to give us his Word, to reveal to us Himself through scripture, that we may know him more. Christ tells us in Matthew 7 that it is those who hears his words and does them is wise. God spoke through Jeremiah and reminds us:
Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.
-CONSIDER & MEDITATE- Psalm 119 Ezekiel 37
-PRAYER & THANKSGIVING- Pray for the Lord to search you and know your heart. Ask the Lord to fix your heart and mind on Christ. Give thanks to the Lord that our troubles and trials and difficulties are temporary. Give thanks to the Lord that we can call on Him and trust Him in all that we face. Give thanks to the Lord for sending His Son Jesus and that in Jesu, we belong to Him.
