Return to the LORD with all your heart. 9/26/21

Scripture Reading: Psalm 86:8-10 & 15.

Sorry, I got ahead of myself last week, so this is a repeat:

Catechism Question: What is God? Answer: God is the creator of everyone & everything.

There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. Psalm 86:8

-THIS SUNDAY'S SERMON-

As we approach 1 Samuel this coming Sunday, we will find Israel revisiting some familiar, yet unpleasant territory. Read Joshua 24:14-15 and 1 Samuel chapters 5-6. Now read 1 Samuel 7:1-4 very slowly and thoroughly. Read it a couple of times. Samuel gives Israel "If, Then" instruction. What does Samuel say:

If what?

Then what?

Now bring it home to your own heart. Do you desire to return and follow the LORD with all your heart? Then... a. put away foreign gods (idols) from among you. What do you need to put away from you?

b. direct your heart to the LORD. What do you need to do so that you heart is fixed on Jesus?

c. serve Him only. What changes need to be made in your life so that you are solely serving the LORD?

 Take time to pray:

Ask the Lord to reveal the truth of your heart to you. Ask the Lord to give you a desire to faithfully follow Him. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and strength to put away the idols from you. Ask the Lord to faithfully fix your eyes on Jesus. Ask the Lord to give you strength to live for His glory alone.
