ROMANS 8

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. - Romans 8:6

-THIS SUNDAY'S TEXT- As we gather together this coming Lord's Day we will be looking at Romans 8, with an emphasis on verses 1-17. This chapter is one of my personal favorites and has the reputation of being the greatest chapter in the Bible. Oh, what marvelous truth is packed into these thirty-nine verses!

In preparation for Sunday, prayerfully read and reread the chapter. As you look at verse one you see the word "therefore", which indicates Paul is communicating something based on what he has written in the previous chapters. With that, I encourage you to spend some time in the chapters leading up to eight.

Some guidepost for your reading would be: Romans 1:16-32, 2:6-11, 3:10-26, 5:18-21, 6:12-14, 7:14-25

If you want to expand, spend time in the Matthew 5-7 (Sermon of the Mount), Luke 9:18-26,

-CONSIDER & MEDITATE- Paul spends a lot of time making the distinction between a life lived in the flesh and one lived in the Spirit. As you read, take note of the distinctions. Write them out on a sheet of paper. Meditate on those differences and spend time reflecting on your life. Does the fruit of your life express living in the flesh or living by the Spirit?

Also, some questions to ponder What does the Bible say about condemnation? What does the Bible say about conviction? How should we as Christians respond when we are convicted of our sin? What promises can we rely on as we face our sin?

PRAYER & THANKSGIVING Pray that the Lord will: Prepare the hearts and minds of his people as we gather together in the name of Jesus to worship. Give spiritual wisdom and understanding. Reveal sin in our lives that we may repent, turn to Christ and grow in His likeness for His glory.
