Shadows of the Redeemer & the Redeemed

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. - 1 Corinthians 11:26

-THIS SUNDAY'S TEXT-

I am finding our time in Ruth to be very fruitful in my walk with Christ and I pray the same is for you. Chapter 2 introduces to us a key person – Boaz. We are told that Boaz is a relative of Naomi’s husband, Elimelech. He is referred to as a “worthy man of the clan of Elimelech.” Boaz name means “strength is within him”, and he is a kinsman redeemer for Naomi’s family.

While Boaz is not Christ, he serves as a wonderful shadow of Christ. Read Ruth, chapter 2.

Pay particular attention to the conversation between Boaz and Ruth. · Think about the words of Boaz to Ruth. How do they relate to the heart of our true Redeemer – Jesus? · Think about the words and attitude of Ruth toward Boaz – How do they relate to the redeemed (the people of God)?

Verse 12 is a beautiful arrow pointing to our salvation in Christ. It reads, The repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.

Read Psalm 91

Jesus is our refuge from the most horrific destruction, and that is the destruction of the wrath of God. By faith in Jesus Christ, we are sheltered from the wrath of God.

Close with focus on verses 14-18. (Shadow of communion) · Boaz invites Ruth to eat at his table with his people. · Boaz serves Ruth of his provisions. · Ruth eats until she is satisfied and she has leftovers. · Boaz instructs his people to bless Ruth. · Ruth takes advantage of the blessings. · Ruth takes provisions to Naomi.

With these things in mind, read 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 to move from the shadows to the reality.

-CONSIDER & MEDITATE- This Sunday, we will be observing the Lord’s Supper. Take this week to prepare your hearts. You may want to read and meditate on the following passages in preparation for the Lord’s Supper: · Mark 14 & 15 · Isaiah 53 · Psalm 51

May we partake in the Lord’s Supper with pure, thankful hearts. May Christ be exalted!!!
