THE FIRST AND SECOND ADAM

Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. - Romans 5:14b

-THIS WEEK'S FOCUS-

As we pause our time in James this week, we will sharpen our focus on the humanity of Jesus.

Read Romans 5

As you read through the first 11 verses of Romans 5, you see a beautiful description of the gospel and the gracious effect it has on those who are in Christ through faith. It begins with "we have peace with God" and finishes with, "we have now received reconciliation". The good news of the gospel is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has redeemed a fallen people and restore them back to God, their creator.

The second half of Romans 5, verses 12-21, give us the details of that falling away and bring back. We see in the first few verses that it was through one man (Adam) that all mankind falls into condemnation and is then under the reign of sin and death. As you read further, we see that is through one man (Jesus Christ) comes grace, eternal life, and justification.

-Consider and Meditate-

As you read through Romans 5:12-21, notice how Paul seems to be emphasizing the phrase "one man". Prayerfully consider, why is he doing this? What is he trying to tell his reader?

Further passages to read and pray through:

THE FIRST ADAM Genesis 1:26-3:24 (Rise and Fall)

THE SECOND ADAM/GOD MADE FLESH Philippians 2:5-10 (Fall and Rise) John 1:1-18

PURPOSE AND BENEFITS (FAMILY OF GOD) Hebrews 2:9-18 1 Corinthians 15:42-58 Ephesians 1

-Sunday School Resumes- This week we will resume Sunday School following the worship service. We have multiple options for adults (see below for details). We will have classes for children and youth. All children's classes will be be in the main children's wing, except for the 5th and 6th grade class. They will be meeting in the first class room in the lobby. As it stands, we are still short in our rotations for the younger children's classes (nursery - Kindergarten). Please consider joining these rotations. When we have small rotations, those who have committed to serving will not be able to regularly enjoy the blessings and opportunities to grow in an adult Sunday School class.

-PRAYER & THANKSGIVING-

Spend some time praying and reading the Word of God, seeking to grow in the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Also be in prayer for our Sunday School classes.
